Liverpool ascended to the summit of the Premier League following a decisive 2-0 triumph over Burnley on Tuesday.
Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota found the net in successive halves at Turf Moor, propelling Jurgen Klopp’s squad two points clear of the second-placed Arsenal, despite having played an additional match.
Nunez terminated a 12-game goalless streak for Liverpool with a sixth-minute strike, marking his first since November 1.
After numerous opportunities to widen their lead, Liverpool secured the victory with a late goal from substitute Jota in the 90th minute.
Liverpool entered the match on the heels of draws against Manchester United and Arsenal, hindering their chance to claim the top spot at Christmas.
With Arsenal not scheduled to play until their match against West Ham on Thursday, Liverpool seized another opportunity to secure the lead.
Nunez set the stage for victory with a first-time, curled finish from approximately 25 yards.
Liverpool dictated the opportunities, with Mohamed Salah hitting the crossbar in the first half. Cody Gakpo and Harvey Elliott saw goals disallowed on either side of halftime.
As Burnley sought a goal of their own, Liverpool secured their second with a rapid counterattack, culminating in Djota firing a potent shot low from a challenging angle on the left.
This goal marked his 50th for the club.
