The cast for Season 2 of ‘The Last of Us’ welcomes Kaitlyn Dever in the role of Abby

“The second season of ‘The Last of Us’ has formally enlisted Kaitlyn Dever, as reported by Variety.

Dever becomes a part of the acclaimed HBO series, embodying the character Abby, described as ‘a proficient soldier challenged by the complexities of her worldview as she seeks retribution for her lost loved ones.’

Co-creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann emphasized their unwavering commitment to the casting process, emphasizing the quest for actors of the highest caliber who can breathe life into the characters from the source material. The addition of Kaitlyn Dever to the ensemble, alongside Pedro, Bella, and others, has been met with enthusiasm.

Dever’s television portfolio boasts roles in productions such as ‘Last Man Standing,’ ‘Justified,’ ‘Unbelievable,’ and ‘Dopesick.’ In the realm of cinema, she has graced films like ‘Booksmart,’ ‘Rosaline,’ ‘Next Goal Wins,’ and ‘No One Will Save You,’ where she also held an executive producer role. Her outstanding performances in ‘Unbelievable’ earned her a Golden Globe nomination, while ‘Dopesick’ secured both Golden Globe and Emmy nominations.

The narrative of ‘The Last of Us’ unfolds two decades after the collapse of modern civilization. The storyline revolves around Joel (Pedro Pascal), a resilient survivor hired to clandestinely transport Ellie (Bella Ramsey), a 14-year-old girl, out of a repressive quarantine zone. A seemingly simple task evolves into a brutal and heart-wrenching journey as they navigate the perilous U.S. landscape, relying on each other for survival.

Season 1 featured a stellar ensemble, including Gabriel Luna, Anna Torv, Nico Parker, Murray Bartlett, Nick Offerman, Melanie Lynskey, Storm Reid, Merle Dandridge, Jeffrey Pierce, Lamar Johnson, Keivonn Woodard, Graham Greene, Elaine Miles, Ashley Johnson, and Troy Baker.

The series, a collaboration between HBO and Sony Pictures Television, is a testament to the creative prowess of Mazin and Druckmann, who serve as both writers and executive producers.

Carolyn Strauss and Evan Wells join them in executive producing, along with Asad Qizilbash, Carter Swan, and Rose Lam from PlayStation Productions. The show is co-produced by PlayStation Productions, Word Games, The Mighty Mint, and Naughty Dog.

‘The Last of Us’ has not only garnered impressive viewership but has also clinched numerous award nominations. The first season received three Golden Globe nominations and a staggering 25 Emmy nominations.

As the anticipation builds for the Primetime Emmy Awards on January 15, the show has already secured eight Emmy wins at the Creative Arts Emmys, including accolades for Offerman and Reid in the best guest actor and actress in a drama series categories.”
